47th Pillsbury Bake-Off, Worth $1Million!

It has been an amazing – and busy- past couple days. This past weekend was the 47th Pillsbury Bake Off in Nashville Tennessee, and we’ve been recovering all week. 100 final contestants were brought to Nashville to compete for the Million Dollar Grand Prize. That’s right, One Million Dollars. Hosted by Celebrity Chef Carla Hall of ABC’s The Chew, attended also by the Doughboy, this was quite the star-studded affair as dough was in the air and on the line.

As you can see, it is quite the operation.

The event has been running since 1949 with an original Grand Prize of $25,000 and by 1994 was up to $50,000. Since then the prize has escalated to $1,000,000. That’s quite the hike! This makes it the largest prize awarded in an amateur cooking contest.

The event used to be held every other year, but in the past 3 years, it has turned into an annual event. And let me tell you, there was no shortage of amazing, easy to make recipes.

 

Originally, the only ingredient required was Pillsbury’s BEST Flour. Now, the requirements are:

  • No more than 7 ingredients total (not including Table, kosher or plain sea salt, Black pepper, Water at any temperature, Cooking spray for pan treatment, or Dusting of flour used to minimize sticking)
  • You must use 1 ingredient from this list: Ingredient List A
  • And a Second, different ingredient either from that list of this one Ingredient List B

There are Four Category Recipe Awards, each worth $10,000 and $3,000 worth of GE appliances.
