Blackbird Cafe

Blackbird Cafe in Minneapolis endured a tumultuous 2010 after a disastrous fire, and their newish digs are the perfect picture of calm.  Tall candles and serene white fixtures are juxtaposed with artsy groupings of vintage mirrors and earthy antlers.  It is casual, yet stunning…and it runs like a top.  You would think Blackbird has been at this location all along.

Now, that I have set the scene for you…let me set the dessert for you.  It started at the start, of Sugar Loco that is, our site wasn’t even up and running yet, but a friendly local dropped note on our Facebook page saying we ‘had’ to try the Carrot Cake at Blackbird Cafe.  So, here I am enjoying brunch there recently, and I asked about their desserts, specifically the carrot cake…

This isn’t your typical carrot cake.  It’s actually sliced more like carrot bread, but the cake is actually NOT what makes this dessert so spectacular.  The secret is in the frosting.  Goat Cheese Frosting to be exact.  It is so divine, that’s the only way to describe it. Divine.

So, next time you visit Blackbird Cafe {the Norske Scrambler is also melt in your mouth delicious} be sure to get the Carrot Cake for dessert.  You can thank me later, or better yet, just invite me to come along.
