Beaujo’s Bistro is tucked in a small corner just off 50th and France in Edina, MN. It’s the perfect place for a romantic date, or to meet a friend for a glass of wine. One of those places where the whole experience is amazing…start to finish. I’m especially partial to their desserts, of course! My first love was the Flourless Chocolate Cake, but I have since found a new infatuation in the White Chocolate Bread Pudding. I adore the way the sugar caramelizes in spots, just can’t resist it!
I loved getting to know Karl, the pastry chef at Beaujo’s, as we sat down and talked sweets. Originally from the East Coast, it came as no surprise that he gets inspiration from women such as Martha Stewart and Ina Garten. Karl also enjoys using herbs and other fresh ingredients from his own garden in his cooking and desserts, another nod to these culinary greats. Local restaurateur, Lucia Watson, is another favorite in Karl’s home kitchen.
Speaking of Karl’s kitchen, he has a secret weapon that is near and dear to his heart…an old school Kitchen Aid mixer in Key Lime Green. It has traveled thousands of miles with him, and he describes it as a “workhorse”. Karl proclaims that he is a baker first, and chef second. Not only does he love baking new desserts, but he also loves baking bread, again, using unique ingredients that you would find in the garden. If Karl were a dessert, he would be a Chocolate Chip Cookie because “most people can’t resist it.” Karl and his desserts are pretty irresistible too.
Like what you see? Show them some sugar…
