Denver Dessert Crawl – Longing for Linger

I was so lucky to join Jenny in Denver as she “showed me around town” and took me to several dessert hotspots!  We started our Denver Dessert Crawl in the morning {yes, morning – HELLO dessert at 9 am!} at Linger.  Linger is in the old Olinger Mortuary in North Denver, which obviously set a certain “mood” for the tasting.

The Pastry Chef at Linger, Samm Sherman, was so incredibly gracious and brought us three very intensely intricate desserts, no plain old slice of cake going on here.  Each dessert from Linger stood on it’s own with work of art details.

We tried three desserts – the Kunefe, Mississippi Mud Pie, the Peanut Butter & Jelly.  Though they were all delicious, both of us had a fork that would “Linger” over our personal favorite.

Jenny’s pick – I still crave that peanut butter buttercream from the Peanut Butter & Jelly Cup.  A chocolate cup filled to the brim with a peanut butter that’s so creamy, smooth it would have Mr Peanut mouth-gasming.  Seriously.  This bad boy is garnished with a Cabernet “Jelly” Coulis, Bruleed bananas and  candied peanuts.  PB&J all grown up.

Tracy’s Pick – This was not your ordinary Mississippi Mud Pie.  It was layered so precisely and drizzled with a Miso-Butterscotch.  It was the ultimate chocolate dessert with a touch of savory thanks to the miso-butterscotch.

 mississippi mud pie linger denver dessert sugar locoWe loved learning about the history of this “Eatuary” and the owner, Justin Cucci, has put so much thought into the ambiance – he didn’t miss a {dead}beat.  Sorry, I had to sneak in just one pun.
