Double Chocolate Berry Whoopie Pies {Recipe}

Let me just warn you now: These are not your typical Whoopie Pies.  Not one bit.  Are you wondering why?  Here’s the answer:  There is no sugar in this recipe!  As hard as it may seem for this to be possible, these Double Chocolate Berry Whoopie Pies are delicious and down right sinful.  I have one ingredient to thank for that: SweetLeaf  Sweet Drops.

SweetLeaf  Sweet Drops are the liquid alternative to sugar.  SweetLeaf is a completely natural sweetener made by blending SweetLeaf Stevia and raw cane sugar together.  The Sweet Drops are made in a variety of flavors, including Coconut, Cola, Berry and Chocolate.

Hopefully you have figured out where this is going, right?  Let’s continue….

Sweet Drops can be added to both food recipes and beverages (either hot or cold).  I noticed that the sweet liquid has a little color to it but once added to liquid or food, the sweetener completely dissolves without leaving an after-taste.   According to the directions, a few drops of this liquid gold is all you need.  But, you know me well enough by now to know that in my mind a “few drops” means a “few squeezes” instead.

Yes, a few squeezes in my ice water, freshly brewed cup of coffee and of course, in these amazingly scrumptious dessert treats.

1 cup of marshmallow creme
8 oz of whipped topping
about 8 drops of Berry Sweet Drops
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 cup yogurt, plain or vanilla
1 cup water
5-8 drops of Chocolate Sweet Drops

Preheat oven 350 degrees

  1. Beat cream cheese, marshmallow creme until well combined.   Add in the Berry Sweet Drops.
Taste. – Adjust flavor if needed.  Fold in whipped topping.  Set Aside.
  2. In large bowl, prepare batter by combining the box mix, yogurt, water and Sweet Drops.
  3. Taste the batter – Adjust chocolate flavor if needed by squeezing more chocolate Sweet Drops into batter.
  4. In a lightly buttered Whoopie pan, drop about 3 tbsp of batter into each Whoopie cavity.
  5. Bake batter for 14 min.

Continue baking Whoopie pies until all the batter has been used.  As whoopies are baked, remove them from baking pan onto cooling rack. Once Whoopies have completely cooled, spread about 2 tbsp of the filling mixture between two Whoopies making a sweet delicious pie.

Side Note:  Depending on the size of the Whoopies, you may have leftover filling. If you notice that the chocolate pies are on the smaller side, prepare only half of the filling recipe.
