We’ve all seen chocolate eggs before and with Easter just around the corner, they are everywhere with spring flavors like strawberry, lavender and peanut butter.
The most creative chocolate eggs I’ve seen and tasted this year though, are from Kollar Chocolates. This is a hilarious (and delicious) gag gift. Put this egg on a plate with a few strips of bacon and toast Sunday morning and see how long it takes your bleary-eyed family to notice. Kids and adults alike won’t believe that this “fried egg” is actually made of Valrhona white chocolate with a fragrant and subtly savory saffron ganache egg “yolk.” The saffron ganache filling is inspired by Chocolatier Chris Kollar’s signature Poppy Saffron Bar, a white chocolate bar with toasted poppy seeds, saffron and a little sea salt, which won a Gold Medal at the International Chocolate Salon in 2011.
I prefer the dark chocolate kind myself purely for flavor’s sake, although it’s not nearly as convincing.
Kollar also has more traditional Easter eggs too, in milk, dark and caramelia chocolate, but the fried egg’s the way to go.
