Easy Flan Recipe with a Sweet Twist

Flan is one of those easy dessert recipes that can be prepared days ahead of time. If you are not familiar with flan, then I have to say, that you have been completely deprived. Yes, flan is that serious!

A simple flan recipe calls for only a teaspoon of vanilla for flavoring. Me being the type of person that I am, a teaspoon of flavoring is never enough! Especially when I have a bottle of Smirnoff Iced Cake and Kissed Caramel sitting on the counter top begging to be used.

Both flavors of Smirnoff are undeniably sweet and delicious. As you open the Iced Cake bottle, you  not only smell the aroma of freshly baked vanilla cake, but you can almost taste it!

Once I took a sip of it, I knew I had to use it as the flavoring in this easy Iced Cake Flan Recipe

Iced Cake Flan

Ingredients for Caramel:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Ingredients for Flan Custard:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweet condensed milk
  • 2 (12 oz) cans evaporated milk
  • 6 tbsp Smirnoff Iced Cake Vodka

Method:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare the caramel for your baking mold by pouring the sugar into a warm pan placed on medium heat until sugar begins to melt and turns a golden brown. {Keep a close eye on the sugar because you do not want the sugar to burn!}
Once sugar is ready, pour it into your baking dish, tilting the pan as to cover the entire bottom surface and up the sides.
Set prepared baking dish aside.

In a large bowl, mix the eggs using an electric mixer on medium – high setting. Add in the remaining ingredients.
Proceed to blend the mixture until it is completely combined and there are no traces of the eggs.
Pour custard into the prepared caramelized baking dish.

Taking a second baking pan {a roasting pan works well} that is larger than the pan with the uncooked flan on top of a cookie sheet. Place the uncooked flan inside the roasting dish. There should be about 1-2 inches in between the outer edges of the uncooked flan dish and roasting pan.

Slowly, pour water into the roasting pan being careful not to pour water into the flan about 2 inches deep.
Grabbing the sides of the cookie sheet, carefully place this in the oven making sure it sits in the middle of the rack. You do not want the flan too close to the back end of the oven because it will no bake evenly.
Bake flan for about 1 hr. until completely set.

Carefully remove the bain-marie from the oven placing it on a flat surface. Allow it to rest for about 10-15 min before removing the baked fan from roasting pan.
Once the flan has cooled down, place it in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.

To serve Iced Cake Flan:

Run a knife along the inside edges of flan – this will loosen the flan from the mold.
Using a platter that is larger than the flan mold, cover the top of flan and slowly flip over the mold. If the sides were loosened enough, the flan should flip over quite easily.
Serve cold.
