One thing that I love more than baking sweets in my kitchen, is discovering new desserts. There’s something about the discovery of a new dish or food that just tingles the senses, sparking new ideas and interests in learning about new cuisines.
This is exactly what happened to me when I had the pleasure of trying Kouing Aman from Les Madeleines, a Patisserie Cafe in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Kouing Aman is a pastry that originated from Brittany, France. The pastry is flaky, buttery, salty-sweet and just…ugh… mouth-watering it’s so delicious. What really blew my mind was that the pastry comes already baked; which means all you have to do is reheat the pastry in the oven for 5 minutes until the caramel is gooey and melted.
The most difficult part is waiting for the pastry to “cool down” enough to eat it! But the wait is completely worth it – the Kouing Aman just flakes apart in layers of buttery pastry with hints of caramel….this is truly a wonderful treat!
This delicate French pastry is packaged in a small box divided in four sections (which can be shipped anywhere within the 50 states) -fitting one pastry in each section. Under each pastry, there is a delightful quote printed on the bottom of the box. So, not only do your taste buds fall in love with the succulent flavors of France, but your also given a piece of sweet inspiration.
