Labor Day is coming up this weekend, and as childless adults we’re kinda unfazed. We guess we’ve had different opinions on this as we’ve gotten older. As kids, it always seemed like the term “Labor” Day was a little mean-spirited. It was right at the beginning of the school year. Were the adults making fun of us? Like “Haha, you have to go do school work all year starting NOW!”? We always thought they should switch up Labor Day and Memorial Day, so we could celebrate all the “hard work” we did in school with the former and fondly remember the carefree days of summer with the latter.
Now that we’re a little older, and can appreciate our parents’ efforts as well as how relatively easy school was, ending Summers with Labor Day started to make a little more sense. In the hierarchy of most painful types of labor for a parent, entertaining even the most perfect child (not us, whoops) for an entire summer comes in as a close second to actual birthing labor. We understand that parents have a lot to celebrate this weekend.
But for us? We haven’t worked any more or less this Summer than usual. Nothing’s different for us next week, except for only having to work 4 days. Is that enough to celebrate by spending all weekend drinking tasty cocktails, either lounging on the beach or finishing out a 2 week Simpson’s Marathon in front of the tube? We think so!
Ya see, Pinnacle Vodka sent us this recipe for the perfect Labor Day Sangria, and we suddenly realized that we DO have something to celebrate. Good food and good drink in the company of good friends, amiright? Yeah, sure – parents have A LOT more to celebrate. But we’ll just post this recipe here, and you can all come up with your own reasons to drink these clear through till Tuesday morning!
Labor Day Sangria
6 parts Pinnacle® Citrus Vodka
3 parts Dekuper® Pucker Sour Apple Schnapps
3 parts Lemon Sour
1 750 ML Bottle New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc®
1 Lemon cut into wedges
Mix all ingredients together in a pitcher with ice. Serve and enjoy!
