Major buzz alert on the Auntie front! The ultimate guide for Cool Aunts, Great-Aunts, Godmothers, and all women who love kids is becoming a HUGE trend. Does this fit you or someone you know? Melanie Notkin, author, is here to prepare for the new little arrivals and gives you great ideas on spoiling them silly – and then sending them back to their respective parents. What a perfect arrangement!
Melanie’s adorable book has amazing ideas on how to celebrate your Auntie-hood (uh hem, cheers to the Savvy Auntini Recipe on pg 227) and indulge the wee ones with fun activities and great recipes. Sail into aunt-hood with style!
We had a quick chat with gorgeous and talented, Melanie Notkin, about how she likes to make her Auntie memory making time sweet…
Hugs and kisses. And candies packaged in their favorite colors. Each niece and nephew has his or her ‘own’ color and so whatever the candy is, making them feel special is the sweetest thing of all.
I’ve learned that the little ones prefer the decorating to the actual baking, so I bring plain, ready-to-decorate cookies over!
When they were little and we lived near each other, we used to walk over to the local ice cream parlor for cones. I would get a call from a 2 year old saying: “Auntie! Ice cream” and I’d drop what I was doing and run over there. Oh the smile and excitement on their faces when they’d see me ready to take them out for ice cream!
The grocer’s freezer! I’m a simple girl at heart so give me an ice cream sandwich and I’m good to go!
Once you have nieces and nephews, your birthday cake is no longer about you… and the pink icing flower is no longer yours for the taking. And that’s just the way it should be. 🙂

I love being an Aunt! I had nieces and nepews long before I had kids of my own, and I would like to think of myself as a Savvy Auntie 🙂 It’s such a fun and important connection!

I HAVE an aunt like that, and so do my kids, but I could take lessons on BEING an aunt like that.

Unfortunately my only niece lives in another state, but I would love to be the aunt to drop everything to go get ice cream. Although I;m not even that kind of mom so I wonder if I really would? 🙂
