It’s all the rage with desserts. Chocolate covered Twinkies (I heard they started making them again!), Cherry Cola cakes, Vanilla Wafer sandwich cookies, you name it. The sad thing about trends is that most of them are hype. Not Lucas Candies.
Creating vintage inspired chocolates and candies this fourth generation candy shop is the oldest in it’s hometown Haverstraw, New York, and one of the oldest in New York state. Originally from Greece, the Lucas family has been making chocolates in Haverstraw since 1896 after the five Lucas brother immigrated to the United States (each choosing a different spelling to their last day, to promote individuality).
Nick Loucas has continued the legend, creating unique and rich chocolate candies, fresh daily. Doing retro both literally and figuratively, correct. Candies include their famous (and my personal favorite) Gobs (caramel and chocolate over large homemade marshmallows), PMS Bar (peanut butter, milk chocolate and salty potato chip bar), and chocolate covered Oreos.
Items can be picked up at their Main Street shop in Haverstraw, as well as online at www.lucascandies.com or shipped by phone.
