Lynden’s Soda Fountain {St. Paul}

I’m not sure I’ve seen a more cute concept than Lynden’s Soda Fountain! It’s adorable and then some. Even if you don’t live in Minnesota, you might have heard about Lynden’s- they were threatened in January with a misdemeanor citation and $500 fine for selling candy cigarettes and cartoon lighters. I couldn’t believe the story when I heard it, as I am a BIG fan of the candy cigarettes (when we were younger my cousins, siblings and I all used t o buy out the entire stock when we went to our cabin). ABSURDITY! Some people have to ruin all the fun. With all the press they received I made it a point to pay them a visit and check it out for myself. Located in St. Paul’s Highland Park, Lynden’s oozes with nostalgia and is an enchanting escape from reality.

With a hankering for some top-notch ice cream, my sister, two brothers and I ventured out to find out what we were missing out on. Upon stepping inside, we were instantly transported to the old soda fountains of the 50’s and greeted by one of the “jerks”. We picked a good time to visit as we were lucky enough to get some seats at the counter, making it a true soda fountain experience. They have an extensive menu that offers something for everyone ( I could have ordered 5 things, but I held back!). The staff was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to answer any questions we had and offered suggestions with some of favorites. After going back and forth between a few things, I finally settled on black cow (a classic that’s a personal favorite and an inside joke between my sister, my cousin, and I). It succeeded my expectations- the perfect balance of ice cream, cola, and chocolate sauce. I stole a bite of my brother’s orange dreamsicle sundae which tasted like summer in a glass.  And my sister got the  Zanzibar chocolate ice cream,  which she described as “one of the best things I’ve ever fed my stomach”. My other brother got a shake that got high remarks by all 4 of us, as it looked so good we all wanted a taste. We all agreed we will be returning to Lynden’s, as there is so much on the menu to drool over, one trip simply wasn’t enough!
