Internationally-Certified Pizza Parlor is decadent and delightful
When offered to venture down to Denver’s Ballpark District, on a sensationally sunny Fall afternoon, who would say no? And, who would say no to a pizza dessert? That is exactly how I arrived at Marco’s Coal-Fired Pizzeria.
After I ate my way through their Mista Salad, Toscana and Pistachio Pizza, along with Rotolo’s pizza roll stuffed with basil pesto, salami, and mozzarella, and coal-fired Lemoncello Chicken Wings, I obviously had a ton of room for dessert.
Lucky for Marco’s, the secret to their desserts is actually in their pizza dough. The owner Mark Dym is originally from Brooklyn and so obsessed with the pizza dough from his neighborhood, he actually had his friends send him the water from Brooklyn that they use in their pizza dough. He then had this water tested, and now uses specially created Brooklyn water for the pizza dough at his eateries in the Denver-metro area (there is a second location at the Shops at Vallagio in Englewood).
Without further ado, the Nutella Pizza. This is by far the most popular dessert. “We had to give away so many of these for free when we first opened five years ago. People were so full, but we had to let them experience our version of chocolate bread,” explains Gina Petrini, manager of both Marco’s locations. “We still give away a Nutella Pizza for anyone’s birthday.”
She was right—it was simply magic. The authentic Italian dough, made with the finest ingredients like Antico Molino Caputo ‘00’ flour, is placed in the wood-fire oven and topped with Nutella and powdered sugar – it was exotic, yet comforting. The South location even offers up Nutella Nuggets in miniature bite size pieces. I also splurged on the seasonal Pannacotta, Italian custard made with vanilla beans, cream, heat and time. To help remove myself from the other tempting Italian-inspired delicacies, such as the Dolce pizza, Cannolis or Italian Tiramisu, I sipped on a Pumpkin graham latte sans rum to motivate and process the incredible and authentic Italian dessert destination that is Marco’s Coal-Fired Pizzeria. Definitely hit this place pre or post-Rockies games for good deals, great eats and sugary treats. Visit marcoscoalfiredpizza.com for more information and access to the fantastic menu.
