Not only is October all about Halloween candy, but it also happens to be National Cookie Month! Celebrate this festive month-long celebration by whipping up a batch of Sweet-and-Spicy Chocolate Cookies with a recipe from Colman’s Mustard. When most people think of mustard they think of BBQs and hot dogs, but adding mustard to cookies results in a mouthwatering dessert filled with complex flavors. Your taste buds will be dancing for joy!
Mustard Spiced Chocolate Cookies
16 tablespoons softened butter
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon sugar
2 tbsp natural yogurt or sour cream
2 tbsp orange juice
1 tbsp Colman’s Original Prepared Mustard
2 oz cocoa powder (unsweetened)
2 cups plus 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon flour**
1-2 cups chocolate chips (optional)
Preheat oven to 375.
Beat together butter, sugar, yogurt (or sour cream), orange juice and mustard. Sift (or just mix) cocoa powder and flour and add to the mix, stirring to a soft dough.
Form into smooth walnut-sized balls, arrange on a baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes.
Cool on a wire rack. Makes about 45 cookies.
** If you don’t weigh your flour, fluff it up well before scooping and leveling smooth. If you use too much flour, the cookies will be dry.
