If I was ever on the edge of enjoying Mad Men, I can officially say I’m in love now. What pushed me over, you ask? The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook of course.
Authors Judy Gelman and Peter Zheutlin have capture the best part (in my opinion) of the 1960’s and gathered it all into this beautifully written Mad Men inspired cookbook. Restaurant dishes, classic recipes and cocktails are all included from different scenes such as Don and Roger Sterling’s lunch at the Grand Central Oyster Bar or the cocktail Pete Campbell sipped poolside at the Beverly Hills Hotel – a cocktail they haven’t even served since the 1960s.
All of the recipes included in this cookbook were either showcased in Mad Men or were served in the era of the 1960s. I am in love with the fact that in each section (which by the way includes: Cocktails, Appetizers, Salads, Main Courses, and Desserts & Sweets) they also include a short snippet into the lives of the 60’s; whether it be from an actual scene in Mad Men, the origins of a cocktail or dish, or even the history of a famous person or event in time.
Any lover of the 60’s is sure to have their heart fall even harder for the classics. When it came to the desserts I couldn’t flip fast enough to see what was awaiting on the next page!
Being so hard to choose, I had to choose one to share. Find the recipe for Lindy’s Cherry Cheesecake HERE.
