Have you ever heard the song, “Savoy Truffle” by the Beatles? Written by George Harrison after watching Eric Clapton eat a box of chocolates. With lines like “ Creme tangerine and montelimar. A ginger sling with a pineapple heart. A coffee dessert, yes, you know it’s good news…” or ” Cool cherry cream and a nice apple tart. I feel your taste all the time we’re apart. Coconut fudge really blows down those blues….” I mean, come on, I’m dreaming of a box of chocolates, sitting with Eric Clapton and rocking to some music already … am I right?
Lanae Stagg has crafted together some pretty delicious cookbooks with great food and great music in mind! Stagg talks about her passion for enjoying life and whipping up easy, practical recipes for all to enjoy. Today she is sharing her recipe for the Savoy Truffles in her cookbooks Recipe Records where she created a truffle inspired by each one of the Beatles.
The Paul – “a sweet cherry cream” truffle with a dusting of powdered sugar
The John – “a lemon tart” truffle coated with zest of fresh lemon
The Ringo – “a raspberry nut” truffle rolled in finely chopped pecans
The George – ” a smooth, mellow coffee” truffle dusted with fine cocoa
The basic ingredients apply for all four flavors:
1 cup Milk Chocolate Chips
1/2 can Sweetened Condensed Milk
(this recipe makes about 20 truffles)
On low heat in a saucepan, melt chocolate until smooth, add sweetened condensed milk and stir until smooth and shiny. Remove from heat and stir in flavoring. Chill mixture for 2 hours in refrigerator. Shape into 1 inch balls and roll into coating. Chill for another hour and serve.
The John – pour in 1 Tbsp. Lemon Extract; Coat with zest of lemon
The Paul – pour in 1 Tbsp. Cherry Extract; Coat with powdered Sugar
The George – pour in 1 Tbsp. Strong Coffee (Suggested: 2 tsp instant coffee to 1 Tbsp water); Coat with cocoa powder
The Ringo – pour in 1 Tbsp. Raspberry Extract; Coat with finely chopped pecans
Enjoy & ROCK ON!
