Abby Jimenez can’t help but grin as she tells me all about the BIG things happening in her life. After dabbling in cake decorating in an effort to make adorable cakes for her own kids, Abby quickly realized she had a hidden talent. Nadia Cakes opened it’s first location in Palmdale, California in 2009 and the family-owned business has received nods on TLC and The Food Network, not to mention numerous awards.
Nadia Cakes specializes in uniquely decorated custom fondant cakes and cupcakes featuring over 135 flavors. I fully intend to try each and every one when they open their newest location in the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes, just outside of Minneapolis, in the spring of 2012. I did get a chance to try a few flavors, and here are my sweet tooth notes…
- they are not kidding that their peanut butter buttercream is out of this world
- their Triple Berry Cheesecake Cupcake is a game changer
- their simple white cake with lemon buttercream won me over
Abby really wants her new customers in Minneapolis to know that they are not a chain, but a family-owned bakery, and they came to Minnesota simply because they love it here, winter weather and all. As for the fans of their shop in Palmdale, Abby and her husband are still very involved in running their first location and travel back and forth extensively. Nadia Cakes has an increibly supportive Facebook community, and Abby is extemely humbled by their loyal fans and all of the amazing feedback they recieve daily.
No matter where you live, you can watch Nadia Cakes as they compete on the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars on January 22nd, 2012. You know we are LOCO for Cupcake Wars! We’ll be live tweeting as show airs the sugary drama unfolds, and cheering for our new favorite cake connisseur.
Like what you see? Show them some sugar…
